British Standard Bearer

According to the Setanta commentator last night, Jon Champion I believe, Gareth Southgate is the standard bearer for young British managers since Paul Ince and, er,  Roy Keane were fired.

Now, leaving aside how deeply worrying that thought is, the idea that Roy Keane would be the standard bearer for anything "British" is quite a hoot.

Despite his long association with the awful Manchester United and their risible manager, Keano is absolutely innocent, unlike many of his countrymen, from any West British sensibilities. One gets the impression that the great Cork man merely tolerated Siw Awex as a necessary evil.

I would disagree on the necessary part.
