Church Parking Charges

This may be an ecumenical matter about which my ignorance is nonpareil but let me expand this thought out if you don't mind.

The cathedral in Galway is charging, for example, €8 for 3 hours and 15 minutes parking. So, say you parked up and had a leisurely lunch with your sister and her daft husband, then visited a milliner and bought a bizarre hat, before sauntering back to the car it might cost you nearly a tenner. This is the church charging this! Doesn't seem right somehow.

Again, I don't know much about churches but it seems to me that their duties might includes:
  1. Pouring the Holy Spirit abundantly into children
  2. Advocating pro-life stance (blockading graveyards and so forth)
  3. Teaching the immorality of homosexuality
  4. Indoctrination of children via catechism
  5. Creationism, not evolution (dinosaur bones as prank, whatnot)
But charging €8 for a few hours parking just seems, well, a little ... above board, really. For a church.
