Defenders of Hibernian

In Joseph O'Connor's towering book Star of the Sea we hear of the Defender's of Hibernian. Though weak with hunger and disease these brave men fought back against their British landlords who evicted entire families callously from their land - the land of their fathers - and left them by the roadside to die. The Defenders of Hibernian died too, but they died fighting.

And so, last night, I watched those latter day defenders of Hibernian repelling the repellent Glasgow Rangers and their British-nationalist, famine-denying supporters time and time again. Eventually to gain a heroic point and allow The Famous Glasgow Celtic, that great club founded by those who escaped that famine blighted land, to stay on top of the league.

As I said, I prefer polemic.

Polemic's OK, but hubris is where it's really at. Praising the Hibee's defence 4 days before you play them was always a risky proposition.

Do you think it helped them yesterday? I know I can impact games by watching them but blogging about them?
